Giant Crochet Bernat Blanket Plush Star - Repeat Crafter Me (2024)

Giant Crochet Bernat Blanket Plush Star - Repeat Crafter Me (1)

How many of you looked to the skies today to see the solar eclipse?! We had about 65-70% totality here in Phoenix and I got a glimpse of it! Below is an iPhone photo of the eclipse through the solar glasses.

Speaking of the solar system, I’ve been working on this big plush five point crochet star! It works from the outside inward. Meaning you will start by crocheting the 5 points and then crochet them together with just a few rounds of decrease stitches. It’s actually more simple than it sounds!

I am using Bernat Blanket yarn in color Sunsoaked. Yep, that’s the same color I used for Quackers the Duck so you might already have it on hand. You will need one full ball.

Not a fan of amigurumi? My next project will be this Crochet Star Blanket from Yarnspirations.com that I am going to match to the star. Just imagine it in this beautiful bright yellow with the cute smile and eyes! Or you can make it it in multiple colored stripes. Lots of options!

– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Size K Crochet hook for Star and Size H hook for the cheeks.
Two 20mm Black Safety Eyes (I like THIS pack of extra-large safety eyes from Amazon)(Affiliate)
– Strand of Black Blanket yarn or Worsted Weight yarn for the smile.
– Large Tapestry Needle

Finished Size: Approximately 22 x 22 inches

Star Pattern:
Start by making the 5 cone shaped points

Star Points (make 5):
Magic Ring, 6 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (9 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 6: 2 SC in first, SC in next 5, repeat around, join, chain 1 (21 SC)

Set out the 5 points to create a star shape.
Now lets join them together on one side, then will flip them over and do the same for the other side.

Middle of Star Pattern:
Starting at any edge on any one of the star points
Round 1: Attach yarn, chain 1, SC in first 15 stitches (this means you will have exactly 15 stitches remaining on the other side of the points edge), leave remaining stitches unworked, continue by SC in 15 stitches on the next star point, and repeat for remaining 3 points, join, chain 1 (75 SC)
Round 2: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (60 SC)
Round 4: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (45 SC)
Round 6: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)

If you notice you have small spaces between the points of your star, stitch them closed with those extra loose ends or with a strand of yarn and tapestry needle.
